Open Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty combines internal incisions with a small incision across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils). This approach gives Dr. May full visibility of the nasal structures, allowing for precise reshaping of cartilage and bone. It is most often used for complex or structural corrections.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty places all incisions inside the nostrils. While it offers the advantage of no external scarring, the limited surgical visibility means it is best suited for patients who need only minor adjustments to the bridge or nasal profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I'm a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

Good candidates are generally in good health, have realistic expectations and want to address concerns about the appearance or function of their nose. The best way to find out is a consultation with Dr. May, where he'll evaluate your anatomy and walk you through your options.

Will my results look natural?

Yes. Natural-looking results are the goal, full stop. Dr. May's approach works with your existing anatomy rather than imposing a shape onto it. His aim is to create a nose that looks balanced and proportionate with your face, not one that signals you've had work done.

What's the difference between open and closed rhinoplasty?

Open rhinoplasty adds a small incision along the columella for full surgical access and visibility. Closed rhinoplasty keeps all incisions hidden inside the nostrils but limits what's achievable. Dr. May primarily uses the open technique because better visibility leads to better precision, but both approaches are discussed at your consultation.

How long is the recovery?

Most patients return to work within seven to 10 days. A protective splint is worn for the first week. Swelling peaks around day three and gradually resolves over the following weeks, with final results continuing to refine over 12–18 months.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. May Plastic Surgery offers financing through Cherry, a trusted healthcare lender, allowing you to move forward with your goals and manage the investment over time. Our team is happy to walk you through available options at your consultation.
