Restoring Shape After Pregnancy
Pregnancy and childbirth ask everything of a woman’s body, and the way it adapts through the process is nothing short of amazing. But these changes can make it difficult to feel like yourself again, and many do not respond to diet and exercise. That’s why, at May Plastic Surgery, Dr. Brian May offers a completely customizable collection of surgeries called the mommy makeover to restore your confidence as you embark on this new stage of life.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover is a personalized combination of breast and body procedures done during the same surgery to help with the changes that occur after pregnancy and childbirth. There is no set formula when it comes to mommy makeovers, as the approach varies from patient to patient. During your consultation, Dr. May will spend time discussing your concerns, goals and recovery needs, including time off from work or childcare, to develop a surgical plan that fits your lifestyle.

What Can a Mommy Makeover Address?
Women experience many physical changes after pregnancy that involve more than one area of the body. A mommy makeover is tailored to your unique needs, so there is no “right” or “wrong” approach. Most mommy makeovers include some combination of the following procedures.
Breast Procedures
For women experiencing changes in breast shape or volume, their mommy makeover may include breast augmentation, a breast lift, or a combined breast augmentation with lift. Some women may prefer breast reduction instead, especially if the breasts have remained larger than they’d like after pregnancy or breastfeeding. Sometimes, an internal bra is added during this portion of the procedure to better support the breasts
- Internal bra
- Buttock augmentation
- Labiaplasty
- Cellulite reduction
- Areola & nipple reduction
Body Procedures
Pregnancy can cause a number of changes to the midsection: stubborn fat that won’t respond to diet or exercise, stretch marks, loose skin, and a stubborn belly “pooch” caused by a weakening of the abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) as they stretch to accommodate a growing baby.
A tummy tuck, whether mini, full or extended, is often included as part of a mommy makeover to repair the abdominal muscles and eliminate loose skin and stretch marks below the belly button. Liposuction may also be performed to target stubborn fat and further contour the midsection. Some women include buttock augmentation with fat transfer to restore a more youthful and proportionate silhouette without overcorrection.
Adjunct Procedures
A mommy makeover isn’t limited to breast and body procedures. Many patients also incorporate adjunct procedures like labiaplasty, cellulite treatment, areola or nipple reduction, facial rejuvenation and even injectables like fillers or Botox into their treatment plan. At your consultation, Dr. May will review your options to develop your personalized mommy makeover and help you make confident, informed decisions about what to include.
The Art & Science of Body Contouring With Dr. May
There’s an art to sculpting the body that goes far beyond measurements or technique. It’s about understanding how curves interact, how light moves across the waistline, and how to restore definition without creating results that feel artificial or overdone. Dr. May brings a thoughtful, detail-oriented mindset to every contouring procedure, not just aiming to flatten the abdomen or remove fat, but to create a natural-looking shape and proportion that feels uniquely yours.
Body contouring requires precision, but it also requires restraint. Knowing when less is more, and how to shape rather than simply remove. “Body contouring isn’t just about skin and fat removal,” Dr. May explains. “It’s more important to know what to leave behind. That means looking beyond any one feature and designing something that makes sense for the whole body… something that feels natural and balanced.”
Every decision Dr. May makes, from where to remove fat to how each area flows into the next, is made with harmony and longevity in mind. His goal is always a result that enhances your shape while staying true to your natural form.

Procedure Details
Dr. May maps out the surgery in detail before the day of your appointment, and you will go over these plans again when you arrive at the office. You will be under general anesthesia for the entire mommy makeover surgery for your safety and comfort.
Because a mommy makeover can include different procedures, the exact details vary from patient to patient. Your surgical plan is customized to your unique goals and anatomy, with careful attention to how the procedures work together to create your desired results.

Recovery & Results
The extent of your recovery after a mommy makeover will depend on which combination of procedures is used. Healing will generally involve both the breast and body areas, where soreness, swelling and bruising are all expected. You will need to avoid many activities in the first week, including housework and heavy lifting. You will also have restrictions when it comes to bathing and certain sleeping positions.
Some results are noticeable right away. You will notice the absence of loose skin and a flatter abdomen. Breast procedures also deliver immediate results that continue to refine as swelling decreases and the tissues “settle.” It can take several months to see your final shape. During this time, your scars will also mature and become less obvious.
