— delivering confidence through precision and care.

Adjusting Navel Shape After Pregnancy or Surgery

Tummy tuck surgery often involves repositioning the belly button, but this area can also be corrected on its own. Umbilicoplasty can be helpful when prior surgeries have left the area with a hernia or changes in shape, or when patients feel unhappy with the natural shape of their belly button. At May Plastic Surgery, Dr. Brian May uses umbilicoplasty to refine this small, but noticeable part of the abdomen.

What Is Umbilicoplasty?

Umbilicoplasty is a surgical procedure that focuses specifically on the belly button. Originally used to correct umbilical hernias in infants, it can be helpful to address changes in appearance caused by pregnancy, old belly button piercings and surgical scars left by hernia repair or laparoscopic procedures. Umbilicoplasty can also improve the shape or contour of the belly button and is often sought to create a nice oval shape and transform an “outie” into an “innie.”

My goal is simple. I combine surgical precision with genuine, personalized care so every patient not only looks their best but feels seen, heard, and confident in their transformation.

The Art & Science of Body Contouring With Dr. May

There’s an art to sculpting the body that goes far beyond measurements or technique. It’s about understanding how curves interact, how light moves across the waistline, and how to restore definition without creating results that feel artificial or overdone. Dr. May brings a thoughtful, detail-oriented mindset to every contouring procedure, not just aiming to flatten the abdomen or remove fat, but to create a natural-looking shape and proportion that feels uniquely yours.

Body contouring requires precision, but it also requires restraint. Knowing when less is more, and how to shape rather than simply remove. “Body contouring isn’t just about skin and fat removal,” Dr. May explains. “It’s more important to know what to leave behind. That means looking beyond any one feature and designing something that makes sense for the whole body… something that feels natural and balanced.”

Every decision Dr. May makes, from where to remove fat to how each area flows into the next, is made with harmony and longevity in mind. His goal is always a result that enhances your shape while staying true to your natural form.

“I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach and tailor every aspect of the procedure.”

Procedure Details

Umbilicoplasty can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on whether it’s being done on its own or as part of a larger procedure. Dr. May will make incisions around the belly button to reshape or reposition it. He may remove excess skin or place internal sutures to keep the new shape. One of the goals of this surgery is to keep incisions as discreet as possible, and Dr. May plans each step based on what will work best with your anatomy.

Selecting the appropriate CMS is crucial for your project's success. Factors to consider include ease of use, scalability, and the availability of plugins or extensions. Popular options include WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal, each catering to different user needs.
Ensuring the security of your CMS is vital. Regular updates, strong passwords, and user access controls are essential practices. Additionally, consider implementing security plugins and conducting regular backups to protect your content.
To maximize the effectiveness of your CMS, content optimization is key. This includes using relevant keywords, structuring content with headings, and incorporating multimedia elements. Well-optimized content improves user engagement and search engine rankings.
The landscape of content management is evolving rapidly. Emerging technologies like AI and machine learning are shaping the future of CMS, enabling more personalized user experiences and automating content management tasks.
Many businesses leverage CMS platforms for e-commerce. These systems provide tools for product management, payment processing, and customer engagement. Popular e-commerce CMS options include Shopify and WooCommerce.

What can I expect at my consultation?

The first consultation is a genuine, thoughtful conversation. We want the experience to feel comforting and non-clinical while still meeting all the medical needs of our patients. We’ll talk in-depth about your goals, concerns and medical history, and I’ll perform a physical exam to help determine the best treatment options. I like to think that my approach is honest and educational. I want patients to leave feeling informed, not pressured. You’ll receive a customized plan and have plenty of time to ask questions. This is your space to explore what’s right for you. We’ll also make sure to discuss skincare and how to properly prepare for surgery, as well as how to take care of your skin after surgery to ensure the best results possible.

How do you keep the scar from being noticeable?

I make the incision around the natural edge of the belly button, which helps it blend in as much as possible once healed. I also make sure to avoid putting tension on the incision when I close it, since tension can stretch the scar and make it more visible as it heals. We’ll talk through what to expect, and I’ll also go over some aftercare steps, like massage and scar creams that can fade your incision.

How can I be sure my results will look natural and not overdone?

Through meticulous planning, customization and execution. I use the latest surgical techniques and maintain a relentless commitment to continuous learning. I also set realistic expectations and follow patients closely during their recovery to ensure optimal results. It is my opinion that some plastic surgeons will simply do the procedure a patient asks for because their friend had it or because they read about it. I offer options and have in-depth conversations about the pros and cons of those options. If a patient’s goals do not align with what I feel is a safe or appropriate treatment, I am more than comfortable telling them no or that I’m not their surgeon.
