Restoring Smoother Thigh Shape
Surgery for the thighs can sometimes be just as much about relieving discomfort as it is about improving the look of the upper legs. Skin in this area can chafe in hot weather, especially after weight changes or as the skin ages. If the thighs don’t match the contour of the hips or abdomen, you can talk with us about your options for surgically sculpting this area. At May Plastic Surgery, Dr. Brian May can help the body look more in balance and feel more comfortable with thighplasty surgery.

What Is Thighplasty?
Thighplasty, or thigh lift surgery, is a procedure that we use to remove excess skin from the inner thighs and reshape the upper legs. This surgery is often chosen after major weight loss when there is more loose skin in the area or when tissue changes have happened over time. This surgery may be combined with other options, like liposuction, to reduce the overall size of the upper legs and make the results even more comprehensive.

What Can Thighplasty Address?
This area is prone to chafing and moisture, which can make added bulk difficult to live with. Thighplasty can help improve:
- Loose or stretched skin on the inner or outer thighs
- Skin that rubs or causes irritation during movement
- A feeling of heaviness or imbalance in the upper legs
- Difficulty finding clothing that fits properly through the thighs
- Areas that stay full despite a healthy lifestyle
This surgery may be right for you if your skin isn’t elastic enough to bounce back after liposuction in the thighs.
The Art & Science of Body Contouring With Dr. May
There’s an art to sculpting the body that goes far beyond measurements or technique. It’s about understanding how curves interact, how light moves across the waistline, and how to restore definition without creating results that feel artificial or overdone. Dr. May brings a thoughtful, detail-oriented mindset to every contouring procedure, not just aiming to flatten the abdomen or remove fat, but to create a natural-looking shape and proportion that feels uniquely yours.
Body contouring requires precision, but it also requires restraint. Knowing when less is more, and how to shape rather than simply remove. “Body contouring isn’t just about skin and fat removal,” Dr. May explains. “It’s more important to know what to leave behind. That means looking beyond any one feature and designing something that makes sense for the whole body… something that feels natural and balanced.”
Every decision Dr. May makes, from where to remove fat to how each area flows into the next, is made with harmony and longevity in mind. His goal is always a result that enhances your shape while staying true to your natural form.

Procedure Details
With the right technique, thighplasty can make your thighs feel lighter and smoother and can balance their proportion with the rest of your body. It’s done under general anesthesia and may include liposuction for stubborn fat in addition to excision for loose skin. Dr. May makes the incision along the inner thigh, where it will be least visible while allowing for enough skin removal.
Once Dr. May has reshaped your thigh and created a natural and balanced shape, he closes the incisions and then provides you with a compression garment to encourage the thighs to keep their new contoured shape. You will wake up and be monitored in a recovery room, and a friend or family member will be able to take you home the same day.

Recovery & Results
It is important to take it easy for the first couple of weeks after a thighplasty. You will need around two to three weeks of limited activity. The legs naturally hold onto fluid, and there is often more swelling in this area, which is why it’s so important to wear your compression garment every day. You will also need to take particular care with your incisions since they are in an area known for delicate skin and prone to friction and moisture.
As your swelling goes down, you will be able to see more of your results. You’ll have regular check-ins with Dr. May so he can make sure everything is healing nicely, and he can make recommendations about how to care for your scar. Within a few months, you’ll notice the color of the scar fading from a bright pink or purple to something a little closer to your skin tone.
